Welcome to Third Grade!
Welcome to the third grade at Highland Elementary School where we are actors, authors, readers, mathematicians, scientists, and historians. Third grade is an exciting and challenging place to be. It is a place where students are becoming responsible and organized under the cooperative guidance of their caring parents and teachers.
Reading continues to be a priority as we strive to make it meaningful and relevant to ourselves and the world around us. Guided reading and the Accelerated Reader program are utilized to make these "connections." Writing skills are developed daily in our Writers Workshop, which gives us the opportunity to apply the writing process. Math is hands-on and interactive as we apply these concepts to our daily lives to make it more meaningful and fun. Literature, hands-on activities, study trips, on-line videos, and group work are all used to assist in developing an understanding of various topics in science and social studies. These two subjects are taught on a rotating basis and are integrated into our spelling and reading units.
We appreciate parent help and support both in school and at home. We work hard, study hard, and learn a lot in the third grade. It is an awesome place to be, and we look forward to working with everyone for a successful and fun year of learning.
